How Does Bidding Work?
The Car Farm auction platform is designed to provide the best experience to you whether you are buying or selling. With each listing, auctions typically run’s live for a 7-day period. With our state of the art Automatic Bidding system, bidding couldn’t be easier. At any time whilst the auction listing is live, simply enter the maximum amount you would like to bid. If it’s higher than other bids and there is still time on the clock, you become the high bidder. We’ll then bid on your behalf – enough to keep you in the lead, but only incrementing up to the maximum limit you specified. If someone outbids you, we’ll let you know via email so you can decide if you want to increase your maximum bid.
Can Anyone Bid?

How Can I See If There Is A Reserve OR What The Reserve Is?
We never disclose a listing’s ‘Reserve’. On each listing, there will be a indication if the Reserve has been met or not met. Once the reserve is reached, the listing is then obliged to sell.
Should I View The Car In Person?
Yes we certainly recommend that. We always strongly recommend viewing any car before placing a bid. This is why we offer our sellers the Concierge Package which allows potential buyer’s to see the car in person. However we know it is not always possible to do so, so our team will write the most comprehensive listings on each listing and offer detailed photo’s of each car. You will also have the opportunity to ask any questions during the auction.
If There Is Anything Specific I Wish To Know On A Listing, How Can I Find Out?
If you have a question about anything to do with the Lot, please use the Q&A section under each listing to ask your question. Remember to check all of the photos, videos and text as we try to cover as many things as possible in the listing.
Can I Comment?
Yes, please do. Our comments are designed to allow our members and bidders to have a discussion about the vehicle and assist both the potential buyers and the seller.
Should I Bid Last Minute?
There isn’t really much advantage as we have eradicated last-second sniping. If anyone bids in the last 2 minutes of an auction we extend the sale by 2 minutes to allow any remaining bidders to continue to participate, this repeats until all bidding is complete. This makes it fairer to all buyers and sellers. In addition our Automatic Bidding allows bidders to place their maximum bid hours or days before auction end, confident in knowing that our software will keep them in the lead up to their maximum.
Can I Trust The Description?
The description write-up is written by the Car Farm, not by the seller. It is carefully written after discussions, photos and documents from the seller and other public sources. Whilst we try to cross-examine as much as possible and intend that we are completely transparent with the description, please ensure you are happy with the Lot’s condition and of course, for vehicle, see the vehicle in person.
Has The Car Farm Inspected The Lot?
We do not always inspect the Lot but make it very clear when we have. We rely on comprehensive photo galleries and will ask the seller detailed questions and to provide more photos of specific areas if they are missing pre-auction. For Vehicle’s, each Lot is photographed and visually inspected by the Car Farm and detailed in our write-up but like all other auctions, we do not conduct a professional inspection ourselves.
As A Buyer, What Is A Concierge Listing?
Concierge is a premium service we offer to sellers which provides our professional detailing, photography plus storage of the car for 14 days to allow potential bidders to come and inspect the car.
Can I Buy A Vehicle ‘SUBJECT TO INSPECTION’?
By submitting a winning bid, you are making a legal purchase commitment (same as with all physical auction’s) so ‘No’ you wouldn’t be able to buy a vehicle subject to inspection. Remember, a winning bid results in a 5% non-refundable deposit being placed.
Can I Bid On The Basis Car Farm Will Guarantee The Car I Am Looking To Bid On Will Pass The Annual Government Inspection (MOT)?
In some circumstances, the car listed on the Car Farm auction platform is coming up for the road license renewal or has already expired in which case, the car will be required to pass the annual government inspection (MOT) before road license for the car can be purchased. As a bidder, it is your responsibility to satisfy yourself of the details and condition of the auction lot before placing a bid. Car Farm does not guarantee and is not responsible for the annual government inspection pass or renewal.
How Do I Know The Seller Is Trustworthy?
We take Car Farm’s reputation very seriously. We intend to provide a transparent commercial experience and are aiming at enthusiasts who would like to be treated in the same way as they treat others. If a seller or buyer drops below our required standards, we will investigate the issue. If our members standards repeatedly drop below Car Farm’s standards, we will ask them to leave.
Why Has An Auction Extended Beyond Its Published End Time?
If a bid is received within the last two minutes of the auction, the countdown is reset to two minutes. This allows buyers to consider making further bids without panic! All further bids will reset the two-minute countdown. The auction ends when there have been no bids for two minutes.
What Happens At The End Of The Auction?
At the end of the auction, if you are the winning bidder you will be asked to pay a 5% deposit. This 5% deposit will automatically be deducted from your credit card which you used upon registration for bidding. Once this is done then you should arrange pickup of the vehicle directly with the seller within seven days and agree payment via a method you both agree on.
Which Payment Methods Do You Accept? Who Do I Pay?
The 5% deposit is collected by the Car Farm. We can accept payment via Visa, Mastercard and American Express. The winning bid is paid directly to the seller in a mutually convenient method. We recommend both parties to go to a bank together and transfer the money, or issue a bank cash order.
What Protection Do I Have If The Lot Is Not As I Had Hoped?
In placing your highest bid, you are legally committing to buy the Lot. We provide very comprehensive photos and description of all parts of the Lot, plus we offer the opportunity to ask further questions. Please ensure before bidding that you are happy with your understanding of the Lot’s condition. Car farm ensures all materials regarding a specific Lot we post on our website is genuinely relates to the auction Lot. The Car Farm Seems To Want To Know All The Fault’s. Is This Really Necessary?
Yes. We are intending to publish the most comprehensive auction listings. The vehicles are obviously not factory-fresh, and enthusiasts would not expect them to be perfect. If we ignored the faults, buyers would not have the confidence to bid. By describing the faults and photographing the blemishes, we are giving a true detail of your item which actually can achieve higher auction prices as they are genuine. Everything, especially vehicle will have faults, and everything has a price. By being open, we ensure that both buyers and sellers know what they are dealing with.
What If I Hide The Faults From You?
Many of our auctions are sold without the buyer having an opportunity to view. If the buyer then visits to pick the item and finds such item is significantly mis-described, they will be seriously dissatisfied. We would not accept any further vehicles from sellers who repeatedly mis-describe.
Do I Expect Viewings Of My Car?
You should be prepared to have requests to view your car, it can make a bid difference to some buyers. However, we have noticed that our extensive photo galleries result in fewer viewings and that those viewing’s are taken seriously rather than tyre-kickers.

All auctions have a ‘Q&A’ section which allows the buyer to ask a question. Please keep an eye on the Comments section where buyers may ask questions.

2. Bidders can ask questions and for cars, viewing can be arranged throughout the auction

3. winning bidders have to submit a deposit of 5% at the close of auction

4. the accounts of disreputable buyers and sellers are closed.

How Does Reserves Work?
We work with sellers to set reasonable reserves and avoid Lots with reserves that are unrealistic. Once a reserve is close to being met or has been met then we make it clear on the auction listing. In addition, we generally cannot apply a reserve to any vehicle expected to reach under HKD100,000.00.
What Do You Mean By ‘No Sniping’?
It’s common in online auctions for some bidder’s to use software to enter a bid in the very last seconds of the auction to outbid others without giving them a chance to respond. At the Car Farm, If a bid is placed during the last 2 minutes of an auction, we extend the auction by another 2 minutes. This gives everyone a fair chance to place their bid’s and gives seller’s a chance to sell to the true high bidder. Hence, fair for both the buyer and seller.
