Model History
The third generation of the BMW 6-Series was launched in 2011 – utilising much of the architecture and parts shared with its four-door sedan sibling, the F10-generation 5-Series. Added to the two-door coupe and convertible models, the four-door 6-Series Gran Coupé was introduced in June 2012 at the Geneva Motor Show. Essentially an extended wheelbase, sedan version of the coupe it was based on (aimed to rival the similarly-styled Mercedes Benz CLS and Audi A7 executive coupe-sedans), the Gran Coupé was 112 mm longer and 23 mm taller, as well as featuring a 4+1 seating arrangement (four full size seats with one smaller middle seat). The same range of petrol and diesel engines featured in the 6 Series Coupe/Convertibles were made available in the Gran Coupé – from a 3.0L‘TwinPower’ inline-six up to a 4.4L twin-turbocharged V8 tuned by BMW’s ‘M Division’, reserved exclusively for the M6 models.
2015 saw a ‘LCI ‘ (Life Cycle Impulse) mid-life refresh introduced for all models in the BMW 6-Series range – consisting of updated hood and bumper designs, as well as adaptive LED headlights, new wheel designs, and additional colour choices.
History File
This is a 2015 BMW 640i M Sport Gran Coupé (F06), finished in Graphite with a Cinnamon Brown interior. This car was originally sold as new as a BMW Concessionaires Ltd. (BMW Hong Kong) car to the first and current owner, who secured one of the last 6-Series Gran Coupé (F06) models imported for the Hong Kong market and has primarily used this car as their daily driver – with most of the miles accumulated on various motorway journeys and commutes.
Aside from respraying the wheels into their current Black finish, no major modifications have been done to the exterior, interior, or running gear of this car. All of the routine service and maintenance has been performed by BMW Hong Kong’s service centre – the owner has also kept all of the invoices and receipts on record. Major work they have performed on this car includes a replacement of the electronic handbrake motors (for both rear wheels), as well as the air conditioning compressor and turbocharger charge pipe. They also have recently replaced all four tires. The current owner reports that the front right fender was replaced following a minor accident, but aside from this – this car has remained free of any major accident damage or bodywork repairs. This car has had zero previous owners, has a current mileage of 112,000 km and the current road licence is valid until 3rd May, 2023.
Exterior
Visual inspection found the Graphite exterior on this 6-Series Gran Coupé to be in excellent condition all round – all of the body panels do not show any surface blemishes or imperfections; while the front right fender was reported to have been repaired by the current owner, this was done professionally and no signs of damage were observed on this body panel. The ‘M Sport’ front and rear bumpers are fully intact, as are both front kidney grilles. Both front & rear side doors, the bonnet and the boot lid open and close shut normally – none of their hinges or latches show any corrosion. Both side door mirrors and door handles do not have any surface damage. Both headlights, taillights, and side markers illuminate as they should – the daytime running LEDs also function normally. All of the BMW exterior badges and emblems are present with none missing any trim pieces. All four ‘Style 373M’ alloy wheels are in excellent condition with no kerb rash.
Interior and Trim
Step inside and a vast, luxurious BMW interior for the front and rear occupants greets you. Both front and rear seats appointed in Cinnamon Brown leather upholstery do not show any major surface tears or wear. All of the door panels are intact and none display any visible scratches – the scuff plates with ‘M’ logos and side door sills are also intact with no visible damage. The leather sports steering wheel has no visible wear and all of its buttons work without any problems. The BMW iDrive infotainment system and all of its respective functions work normally – the control dial & console buttons show no surface wear and work as it should. The interior electronics – from the air conditioning to the interior lights all work normally without any problems. The digital instrument cluster – with all of its digital instrument dials and respective menus do not display any missing pixels and relay their key information without any issues.
Engine and Running Gear
Press the keyless Engine ‘Start/Stop’ button and the 3.0L N55 TwinPower inline-six starts up instantly in a sedate fashion. Power delivery from this turbocharged inline-six unit is smooth and linear across the rev range. The 8-Speed ZF automatic transmission shifts smoothly throughout all of its gears without any issues, whether left in automatic mode or shifted manually via the gear selector or steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters. Selecting the various drive modes on the drive selector switch on the centre console, the throttle, steering, and transmission settings can be set up for a sportier driving experience in ‘SPORT/SPORT PLUS’ or economical drive in ‘ECO’. All the brakes provide plenty of stopping power to bring this car to a halt when used. The BMW 6-Series Gran Coupé is the perfect choice for anyone looking to bridge together the appealing design of a grand tourer coupe with the additional practicality of a four-door executive sedan – just like this example, now available at the Car Farm.
