The BMW E30 was the second generation 3-Series introduced in 1982 until 1994, it was the successor of the E21 and was the first 3-Series offered as a saloon (4-door), estate (5-door) and spawned the legendary M3. The 325i housed the M20B25 engine that produced 168hp and was paired with either a 5-Speed Manual Transmission or 4-Speed Automatic Transmission. The E30 3-Series had its interior, exterior styling and handling revised to reduce the amount of oversteer as experienced from its predecessor. Today, the E30 3-Series and M3s have become cult classics – reminding car enthusiasts of the simplistic and timeless design with BMW’s classic handling and performance.
Presented to you at the Car Farm is a 1989 BMW E30 325i Sedan – finished in an eye-catching yet subtle Diamond Black Metallic. It has been registered in Hong Kong since 1989 that has had a number of important components replaced – such as a new alternator, replacement of the air-conditioning unit and fan belts, engine mounts, suspension, tyres and brakes – as well as annual engine oil service. At 33 years old, it has been kept in factory original form and runs beautifully with its 4-Speed Automatic Transmission. It has 2 previous owners, with an unknown mileage (the odometer stopped clocking at 66,575 Miles) and a valid Road License until 25th February, 2023. Included with the purchase are the Original Owner’s Handbook and Service Manuals.
For its age, the Diamond Black Metallic paint on this E30 is in good condition. Upon close visual inspection, we noticed a few imperfections as noticed on the left front fender, the left hand section of the boot (near the antenna), a minor scratch on the right rear bumper’s corner and a crack on the left hand corner of the rear bumper. Apart from these imperfections, the lighting units such as the headlights, rear lights, side indicators and fog lights are free from any signs of fade, cracks and are fully operational. The surrounding chrome trim and window seals remains in great shape, free from any major signs of oxidation or dings. The original 14” OEM wheels are free from any signs of kerb rash and oxidation – a small amount of TLC will bring them back to factory fresh. All of the body panels are aligned and straight, the BMW roundels for the front and rear are vibrant in colour, as well as the 325i chrome badge which remains fresh and free from any signs of oxidation.
Interior and Trim
This E30 325i’s interior is in near tip top condition from every direction you look, touch and feel – from its comfortable cloth seats (free from any tears), the entire dashboard and centre console (with cassette tape holders) which is perfectly aligned and looking youthful for its age. The same is observed for its automatic gear selector, steering wheel and cluster gauge. All of the cabin lights illuminate as they should, and the rear panel housing the factory original speakers is in exceptional condition. The door panels will benefit from a deep clean to accompany the like-new condition. As an added bonus, the original tool kit is located at the back of the trunk, with the rest of the compartment in very clean order.
Engine and Running Gear
The M20B25 unit switched on at the first turn of the key – with a very smooth idle. Engaging from ‘P’ to ‘D’ did not cause any sudden movements or clunks from the E30 until the brake pedal was released. The accelerator pedal also had a heavy weight to it – allowing you to fully feel and utilise its 168hp, with responsive gear changes. Interior cabin noise was to a minimum, with the overall ride being the perfect balance of sport and comfort – with no strange squeaks or creaks coming from the brand new suspension – with the brakes providing enough stopping power for its body. Driving this 325i was like traveling back to 1989 when it was first collected at the showroom – especially with the air-conditioning blowing out cold air (a luxury at the time). A rare opportunity to own a cult classic built to last while travelling with your family and friends, that will continue to appreciate as time goes by – now officially open to accepting your bids at the Car Farm.
