Model History
The BMW E39 was introduced in 1995 and was the fourth generation 5-Series following inline after its predecessor the E34. The E39’s design cues were revolutionary at the time of introduction for the 5-Series, stepping away from the traditional four headlights and boxy shape, in favour of enclosed headlights, more refined lines with soft curves and a timeless design. There were two forms of the E39 5-Series, in saloon and touring, with BMW’s finest engines available to this chassis from its signature straight-six and V8 layouts.
Alpina, an aftermarket tuning house synonymous with creating both performance and luxury BMWs – was founded in 1965 by Burkard Bovensiepen. Prior to Alpina’s and BMW’s partnership the two parties were introduced to each other when Bovensiepen had developed a dual Weber carburettor for BMW’s 1500 at the time. From there, BMW approved of Alpina’s quality and expertise – giving the official stamp of approval for any customers of Alpina cars or parts to have their cars serviced at BMW centres.
An example of Alpina’s craftsmanship, is shown in their final product from engineering the engine, and piecing in the luxurious interior – all of which are hand-made. Known for their signature exterior decor/decals, body kit and 20 spoke wheels – they are the epitome of style and class.
