Introduced in the autumn of 2007 was the fourth generation M3 – the E92. For the first time since the E36 M3, a saloon variant was made available in the form of the E90 – a convertible variant was also available as the E93. The E92 M3 was equipped with BMW’s S65B30 engine – a naturally-aspirated 4.0L V8, producing 420hp, matched with either a traditional 6-Speed Manual Transmission, or a 7-Speed Dual-Clutch Transmission. The GTS Edition was introduced in 2011 – as a more track-focused example, in Hong Kong, there was a GTS Edition made available, however this was more dedicated to aesthetic enhancements – most noticeably the carbon fibre roof, side mirrors, side vents, front lip spoiler and boot lip spoiler, as well as carbon fibre trim for the interior. The E92 M3 is the only generation of M3 that houses a V8 which has a signature sound. Its predecessors and successors continue with the traditional in-line six power plants.
Presented to you at the Car Farm is a rare 2011 BMW E93 M3 GTS Hong Kong Edition, finished Jet Black with a black interior. It was purchased new from BMW Hong Kong under the current keeper’s brother – due to their brother’s relocation in 2016 – the current keeper purchased it from them and has been taking care of this gem. Throughout their ownership, the keeper has ensured annual oil service, including the engine, transmission, differential and brake fluid. Items such as the brake pads, and a new battery have also been replaced. The air-conditioning blows out cold and all the electronics within are working as they should, thanks to a recent service. This E92 M3 GTS Hong Kong Edition has been kept in indoor parking, and comes with the original owner’s manual and purchase report. It has 1 previous owner, a current mileage of 49,763km and a valid road license until 4th November, 2022.
The Jet Black paint is in great condition, as observed from the amount of light that reflects off of its body. There are no signs of stone chips throughout this car, with the BMW emblems switched to a carbon fibre-styled finish, with blacked out kidney grilles and while the M3 badge remains vibrant in colour. Unique to the M3 GTS Hong Kong Edition, are the amounts of carbon fibre infused into the exterior – items such as the carbon fibre roof, side mirrors, side vents, front lip and boot lip spoiler – all of which are in excellent condition – except for the right front lip, which has minor signs of scratches – due to an incident where the original glue that had held it together had melted off – without the keeper knowing – once the keeper found out, they immediately fixed the lip and set it in the correct position. The original M3 GTS Style 359 19” wheels finished in black are in flawless condition – with no signs of kerb rash, chips of paint or scratches – the BMW centre caps are also vibrant in colour. The headlights, rear lights and side indicators are in immaculate condition, and operate as they should, with no missing bulbs – especially for the rear LED units.
Interior and Trim
Open up the doors of this limited edition E92 M3, the carbon fibre treatment as observed from the exterior continues for the interior – most noticeably the carbon fibre trim. The factory M Sport seats are fully functioning and are a great balance of comfort and sport with little to no signs of creases or ageing. The climate control, factory original stereo heat unit and all interior buttons are clearly visible and fully operational with no signs of stickiness. The cluster gauge and digital display unit within are working as they should with no missing pixels. The steering wheel with integrated paddle shifters, DCT shift knob and boots for both the shifter and hand brake are in great condition. The door panels remain tightly secured to the door and the M3 branded door sill plates are free from any significant scuff marks.
Engine and Running Gear
A the press of the Start/Stop Engine button, the soft growl of the naturally-aspirated 4.0L V8 (S65B40) fills our space. Upon warming up, the idle remained steady, and we did not notice any strange sounds or smells coming from the engine or exhaust. The 7-Speed DCT performed as it should and although not equipped with three pedals – gear changes were made swiftly. The ride was a perfect balance of sport and comfort, and in traditional BMW fashion, this E92 M3 GTS Hong Kong Edition remained planted around the turns and corners, while remaining stable at high speeds. Thanks to the electronic traction control, it will engage whenever it feels the E92 M3 will get its back end loose. Overall a very solidly built machine from the greats at BMW – suitable for anyone looking for a limited edition to the city of Hong Kong – a future classic now available to you exclusively at the Car Farm!
