Succeeding the E60 M5, the fifth generation of the BMW M5, based on the F10 generation of the 5-Series sedan was unveiled at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show. Just like other BMW M models were introduced at the time, the F10 M5 also brought turbocharging into its power plant, unlike previous models that were naturally aspirated. Power came from a 4.4L twin-turbocharged S63 V8, producing 552 hp: making it the most powerful production BMW car at its time, and with its torque output of 501lb-ft at 5,750 rpm, even outclassed the preceding M5’s famous 5.0 V10 (which produced 500 hp and 384lb ft. at 6,100 rpm). Transmissions included a 7-speed M-tuned dual-clutch gearbox or, exclusive to the North American market, a traditional 6-Speed Manual Transmission. Additional touches by the BMW M division included a new ‘Active M-Differential’ to allow torque vectoring between the rear wheels and configurable steering/throttle/damper settings. Production of the F10 M5 ran from 2011 to 2016.
This is a 2012 BMW F10 M5, finished in Monte Carlo Blue with a Platinum (White) interior. This M5 was imported as new as an original BMW Concessionaires Ltd. car for the Hong Kong market. Under the previous owner, this F10 M5 received a ‘Stage 2’ Simon Motorsports Chip Tune that has increased the horsepower from 552 hp to 695 hp, a carbon fibre rear trunk lip spoiler, as well as an aftermarket exhaust – they do report the spoiler and exhaust tips do show some wear from over the years as they bought the car with these imperfections already present. The current owner installed the original F10 M5 suspension as well as a set of black OEM F10 M5 19” M-Double Spoke wheels (Style 345). No service record can be provided for this car at this time – the current owner states they ensure regular oil and fluid changes are completed following BMW’s recommended intervals. They have kept the interior as is with no significant modifications or changes, preferring to keep the inside in its full original state. They use this F10 M5 as their daily driver and keep this car parked indoors. This F10 M5 has had one previous owner, has a current mileage of 68,627 km, and the current road licence is valid until 6th January, 2023.
The Monte Carlo Blue exterior of this M5 is in excellent condition – we found no imperfections or visual damage to report of during our visual inspection. Both front and rear M5-exclusive bumpers are in excellent condition – the front Black-finished kidney grilles are both fully intact. Both front & rear doors, the bonnet and boot open and close normally – no corrosion was found on their hinges and latches and the rear trunk’s power function that allows it to open and close by itself operates without any issues. Both side mirrors are free of any scratches. The carbon fibre trunk lip spoiler does show some visible wear, but the spoiler itself is fully intact with no damage affecting its overall structure and rigidity – this aesthetic imperfection can be resolved with a replacement spoiler or remedied with some TLC. The exhaust tips also display surface patina, but these can be given some TLC to restore their original appearance – none of the exhaust tips themselves have any physical damage. All four black 19” Style 345 M-Double Spoke alloy wheels are free of any kerb rash. All of the BMW badges – including the M5 and M emblems are present with none missing or showing any wear.
Interior and Trim
Look inside and a luxurious F10-generation interior greets you – with several distinct features that identify this as a M5 model: from M emblems on certain surfaces to the M-exclusive gear selector. All of the leather seats, finished in ‘Platinum’ upholstery are free of any wear and hardly show any creases from previous use. The dashboard is all fully intact on its leather-finished surface and Silver trim. All of the side door panels, as well as the scuff plates with ‘M5’ emblems are in excellent condition with no surface wear. The gear selector is fully intact and operates normally. The BMW iDrive infotainment system and its dedicated console scroll wheel works without any issues – no problems affect the screen. All of the interior buttons have no surface wear and are in excellent condition. The instrument cluster is free of any warning lights and all of the dials function properly – all of the LCD displays have no missing pixels.
Engine and Running Gear
Press the keyless ignition button and the 4.4L twin-turbocharged S63 V8 roars to life with an aggressive exhaust note – a subtle reminder that this sedate 5-Series sedan is one that carries the M5 badge. The engine bay is spotless and has been kept in excellent condition with no stains or odd noises observed. Thanks to the Simon Motorsports chip tune that has been installed on this M5’s engine, the difference compared to the engine in stock form can be instantly felt when the driver uses full throttle – with power now increased to 695 hp and the delivery from the twin-turbocharged powertrain quicker to get up to speed and is still delivered in a linear, smooth fashion across the rev range. The 7-Speed M-DCT transmission engages all of its gears normally – gear changes happen instantly whether left in automatic or manually changed via the gear selector or paddle shifters and if desired, can be adjusted to offer more aggressive or tamer gear changes via its dedicated mode selector. The steering has plenty of feedback and can be adjusted to various settings, as well as the throttle, suspension, and differential to offer a more relaxed or hardcore driving experience. The brakes, enhanced by the M Division provide ample stopping power to bring this performance sedan to a halt. The BMW M5 remains one of the brand’s most famous models in its history – combining the comfort of a luxurious BMW sedan with the performance capabilities brought on by their M division. The F10 M5 continues this tried and tested recipe well and can be yours to enjoy – exclusively at the Car Farm.
