Model History
Based on the 8th Generation Honda Accord, the Honda Accord Tourer (CW) was an estate variant sold alongside the four-door Accord sedan. Made in Sayama, Saitama, this Japanese-produced Accord was sold for Japanese, European, Australian, and New Zealand markets (as well as being rebadged as the Acura TSX for the United States, whilst sold alongside the North American version Accord).
The Accord Type S served as the top-of-the-range ‘sport’ trim level for both the Accord Sedan and Tourer, added to the Accord range in 2008. Exclusive features added to Type S models included bigger front brake discs, redesigned front and rear bumper designs (with additional front spoiler), side skirts, 18” alloy wheels, illuminated side door sills, red instrument cluster lighting, footwell courtesy lighting, Leather-Alcantara upholstered seats, and for the Tourer models, a powered rear tailgate. Both 2.4L K24 and 2.2L turbo diesel four-cylinder engines were available as powertrains for Type S models.
History File
Featured here is a 2013 Honda Accord Tourer Type S (CW2), finished in Pearl White Metallic with a Black interior. This car was originally made for the Japanese market and was purchased directly by the current owner, a passionate Honda enthusiast and collector from an auction in Japan. They also had a pre-purchase inspection performed on this car (with photos) before it was exported to its current residence in Hong Kong (confirming the current odometer reading is genuine mileage). Since taking ownership, the current owner has added roughly 5-6,000 km to the total mileage of this car. In addition, they would like to highlight that this is a legitimate Accord Tourer ‘Type S’ model (as proven on the Vehicle Registration Document) and is a very rare model to encounter in Hong Kong.
Modifications present on this Accord Tourer Type S include Mugen XJ one-piece wheels, Mugen inspired sport grille and front lip, adjustable Cusco suspension, and inside, an aftermarket touchscreen Android head unit – the original Honda head unit has been kept by the current owner and will be provided. Maintenance and service work performed under the current owner consists of a replacement of all of the running gear fluids (radiator & cooling fluids, engine and transmission oil), a replacement of both rear brake discs and all of the brake hoses with OEM Honda units, as well as touch up Pearl White Metallic paint applied by Dream Colour Professional Car Care Centre in Shau Kei Wan. In November 2022, a full exterior coating was also applied, as well as a replacement of all of the exterior chrome trim.
All of the original owner’s manuals and literature have been kept – the current owner states only one remote key will come with this car. This car has a current mileage of 109,738 km and the current road licence is valid until 21st April, 2023.
Exterior
A visual inspection of the Pearl White Metallic paint finish found it to be in excellent condition all around, with no major surface blemishes or imperfections noted. All of the Mugen exterior parts – from the front bumper to the front grille are free of any major surface damage; the same applies to the rear bumper and side skirts. All primary lights – the headlights, tail lights and side markers illuminate normally. Both exterior rails are fully intact. Both front and rear doors, as well as the bonnet open and close shut normally. All of the exterior badges – from the Mugen logos to the Honda badges are present and none show any surface wear. The powered rear tailgate operates as it should, opening and closing at the touch of its respective button or via the remote keyfob without any problems. All four Mugen XJ alloy wheels are in excellent condition with no kerb rash.
Interior and Trim
Step inside and a spacious interior to accommodate both the front and rear occupants, as well as a large cargo area in the rear greets you. Both front and rear seats, finished in a combination of Leather & Alcantara upholstery are in excellent condition with no tears. All of the dashboard and trim pieces are solid, showing no surface marks or scratches. The leather steering wheel is fully intact – all of its multi-function buttons as well as the paddle shifters operate their respective functions normally. The gear shifter and handbrake lever have no surface marks or major wear. The Android head unit fits seamlessly within the existing dashboard design (the current owner has ensured this head unit fits as ‘OEM’ as possible), operating via its touchscreen and the existing infotainment controls without any issues – including Apple CarPlay. All of the interior switchgear and buttons show no major surface wear and none are sticky when pressed. Both side door panels show no surface damage – the same applies for the illuminated door sills that light up automatically when the doors are opened to offer courtesy lighting. The LCD display for the climate control displays no missing pixels – the air conditioning itself blows very cool air. The instrument cluster and its Type S exclusive red backlighting illuminates fully to add a sportier character to this interior – the LCD displays and all of their menus operate as they should with no missing pixels as well. Both sport aluminium pedals are free of any major signs of use.
Engine and Running Gear
Switch on the 2.4L K24 i-VTEC four-cylinder engine via the keyless ignition switch and it comes to life instantly. While this is an engine belonging to the famous Honda K-Series (with a close sibling being the legendary K20 unit), this K24 engine is less focused on performance nor possesses Honda’s famous ‘VTEC Zone’ at 9,000 RPM; but set up for a more fuel efficient, comfortable driving experience – the current owner highlights this engine delivers great gas mileage for a car of this generation. Power delivery is linear across the rev range for this naturally-aspirated unit – while the throttle is fly-by-wire (electronic) based, the engine is very responsive with no major delays during kickdown of the accelerator. The 5-Speed automatic transmission changes gears smoothly – the driver can also change gears manually if desired via the steering wheel mounted paddle shifters. The addition of the Cusco suspension setup on this wagon delivers a perfectly balanced, communicative ride and steering that is not too harsh but not too ‘boat-like’. All of the brakes are very responsive to use and provide plenty of stopping power. With estates becoming less common to encounter today as interest for SUVs and crossovers continues to rise, an estate offering from Honda is even rarer to come by. For those looking for a practical workhorse or family mover possessing one of Honda’ K-series engines that carries that extra bit of rarity among other estate offerings, this Accord Tourer Type S (CW2) is an option you should consider – now available at the Car Farm.
