Description
Model History
Developed with track performance as its core focus, the new Civic Type R Limited Edition has been designed and engineered to be the most dynamic front-wheel drive hatchback available. With new lightweight components, a stripped-back, driver-focused interior and stand-out styling, this is the most extreme version of the iconic Civic Type R ever made. With just 20 of these officially for the UK market and all selling out before customers could even see the car, Honda UK has already completely sold out of the Type R Limited Edition, making it set to be one of the rarest cars on the road back in 2020.
The Limited Edition features lightweight flow-formed 20” forged BBS alloy wheels with Michelin Cup 2 tyres, which are designed for high-speed track driving but still deliver exceptional on-road performance. Modified dampers optimise this new wheel and tyre combination and recalibration of the EPAS offers maximum control and feedback.
To reflect its extrovert nature, an exclusive new colour, ‘Sunlight Yellow’, has been introduced for the Civic Type R Limited Edition, along with a dark chrome Civic badge on the back. With the addition of contrasting gloss black paint on the roof, wing mirrors and intake vent on the bonnet, the bold colour scheme reflects Honda’s sporting heritage and ensures the Limited Edition stands out as a unique proposition in the performance hatchback segment. The Civic Type R Limited Edition’s interior echoes our sporting bloodline. Featuring the iconic red bucket seats, each model features a plaque marking the build number of the car.
Continuing its track-focused nature, the infotainment and air conditioning systems are omitted at factory to save weight. Additional weight is saved by reducing sound-deadening materials in the roof, rear hatch panel, front bumper and dashboard. The Limited Edition Type R is 47kg lighter than a Type R in GT specification. Unlike other brands’ track-focused performance hatchbacks, the Limited Edition retains its rear seats and the everyday usability for which the Civic is famous for.
The new Limited Edition model retains the Type R’s powerful 2.0-litre VTEC Turbo engine. Peak power output is 320PS at 6,500rpm while peak torque is 400Nm from 2,500rpm to 4,500rpm. It can also achieve 0-62mph in 5.7 seconds.
History File
Presented to you today at the Car Farm is one of the finest modern hot hatches of our time – the Honda FK8 Civic Type R Limited Edition. This particular FK8 LE was originally a UK car, which means that this is 1 of 20 of the UK allocated cars out of a total of 1,020 units globally. Unregistered in Hong Kong, with only 21 km delivery miles, this FK8 LE has barely been run in, and if you’re familiar with the recent sale of the Nissan Skyline R34 GT-R V-Spec II Nür that sold for half a million USD, this FK8 LE is in similar territory, being the highest spec’d FK8 Civic Type R available and is exclusively available to you at the Car Farm.
Exterior
This FK8 LE’s Sunlight Yellow is flawless, as expected from a car with only 21km mileage. The surrounding window trim is factory fresh as are all the carbon fibre effects such as the front lip, side skirts and rear diffuser which are finished off with a red piping to match the Honda emblem. The redesigned front bumper is more aggressive than the standard Type R. The 20” forged BBS alloy wheels are in pristine condition with no visible signs of curb rash or wear. The headlights, fog lights, side indicators and tail lamps are all crystal clear and do not show any signs of scratches or cracks. The aggressive spoiler at the back completes the rear hatch of this FK8 LE and is in excellent condition.
Interior and Trim
Upon opening the doors of this FK8 LE, you are greeted with the signature new car aroma, and a virtually untouched interior. The use of alcantara for the steering wheel enhances the driving experience as it is more race car oriented – the condition as expected is excellent. As we take a seat in the sport seats, they provide an ample amount of support and allow you to sit low. The shift knob is made out of aluminium and has a ‘teardrop’ shape versus the tradition circle/round shape. The shift boot is in black with contrast red stitching and not to far away, you see the Limited Edition plaque, certifying this car as #13.To save weight, this FK8 LE does not have an Infotainment system, nor air conditioning, which is a true testament to it’s commitment to performance.
Engine and Running Gear
Starting up the 2.0L I4 turbocharged engine was done with ease as we pushed the Engine Start button. We did not notice any strange sounds or smells coming out from the exhaust or engine. During our test drive, the FK8 LE stood out to us with its lowered and stiffer suspension, with adaptive dampers and upgraded anti-roll bars for the front and rear that helped keep this FK8 LE stay grounded on the bends. With sharper steering and a firm ride, as we shifted through the 6-Speed manual transmission, the overall experience was engaging. For anyone getting accustomed to a manual transmission, this FK8 LE features an automatic ‘blip’ function which will rev match the engine as you downshift – for experienced drivers, this function can always be switched off. If you’ve been looking for an FK8 Type R that stands out from the rest with a mere 21km mileage, now’s your chance to secure a very Limited Edition, exclusively available to you at the Car Farm.
