Model History
Launched in 2017, the FK8 generation (10th Generation) of Honda’s Civic Type R further revised and improved the brand’s iconic performance hot hatch for the modern era. As initiated by the preceding FK2 generation Type R, the FK8 Type R came equipped with a 2.0L turbocharged K20C1 VTEC ‘Earth Dreams’ four-cylinder engine, mated to a six-speed manual transmission and limited slip differential in the CTR’s traditional FF setup. The FK8 generation Civic Type R was also made more aerodynamic – featuring a redesigned rear spoiler, carbon fibre effect rear diffuser, hood air intake, and vented side fenders. All FK8 Civic Type Rs were produced at Honda’s Swindon plant in the UK, with production running from 2017 to 2021.

Exterior
All sections of the vibrant Boost Blue bodywork are in great condition, showing no imperfections to note of. Both the front and rear bumpers, as well as the side skirts, are free of any damage – all portions of their carbon fibre extenders/splitters are also fully intact. The prominent rear hatch spoiler is also fully intact. Both headlights, tail lights, and side markers with daytime LEDs normally illuminate without any problems. All of the side doors, the bonnet and rear hatch open and close shut normally. Both the side door mirrors, exterior window sun visors, and door handles are free of any surface damage. All of the exterior emblems – from the Honda to the ‘Type R’ badges are present with none missing any trim pieces. The rear exhaust tips show no surface patina. All four 18” Volk Racing TE37 Saga wheels are in perfect condition with no kerb rash.
Interior and Trim
Step inside and you are surrounded by a 10th-generation Civic’s interior, featuring various details and features to make this stand out as a Type R model. Both sports seats in the front firmly hold the driver and passenger firmly in place with no surface wear on any of their cloth upholstery – the same applies to the rear seats. The Mugen steering wheel shows no wear on any of its surfaces or buttons. The aluminium gear shift knob shows no surface scratches and the leather shift boot is all fully intact – the ‘Type R’ serial number plaque located on the bottom of the transmission panel can also be found (confirming this example is R-45035). All of the dashboard panels and carbon fibre trim are free of any surface scratches. Both side door panels and door sills are free of any marks. The Honda Connect infotainment system operates normally – its touch-sensitive buttons and screen UI works as they should. The instrument cluster and all of its dials & LCD displays function normally. All three pedals in the driver’s footwell have been well-preserved and none of them shows any major signs of use over time.
Engine and Running Gear
Press the ‘Engine Start/Stop’ button and the 2.0L K20C1 turbocharged four-cylinder engine springs to life. The closed-ratio 6-Speed manual transmission is precise and sharp to use with each gear change. With the addition of the Spoon Sports springs and Beatrush front strutbar, this Civic Type R feels even more planted to the road when pushed through the corners at any degree of speed – allowing its finely tuned handling setup to shine through. The driving experience can be enhanced via the ‘R+’ drive mode selector in the lower center console, adjusting the throttle and steering settings for an even more engaging drive. The brakes are very responsive as expected of a performance hot hatch and bring this car to a prompt halt. Even as the new FL5 generation Civic Type R becomes readily available, the FK8 generation of Honda’s famed hot hatch remains a capable and enjoyable platform for anyone to enjoy with plenty of aftermarket support that continues to this day – as evident by this late model example, featuring a few tasteful Honda modifications, now available at the Car Farm.
