Model History
Succeeding the X100 series, the second generation Jaguar XK Coupe (X150) continued Jaguar’s two door, fastback coupe formula. With a design penned by Ian Callum (who also designed Aston Martins at the time), the X150 XK utilised aluminium body panels to allow for lighter kerb weight and better handling dynamics, as well as a bonded and riveted aluminium chassis shared with Jaguar’s luxury flagship, the XJ. The front fascia was also inspired by famous Jaguar models of the past – such as the XP/11 prototype and the front grille badge location of the E-Type. Powertrain options included the same 4.2 and 5.0L AJ V8 engines from the Jaguar lineup, with a supercharged V8 option available for the ‘XKR’ performance models – mated to a six speed ZF automatic transmission.
A mild facelift for the X150 was introduced in 2009 – which saw updated front fascia features (notably, new headlight & taillight as well as front bumper designs), a new 5.0L AJ-series supercharged V8 engine, and new interior features, including a new rotary gear selector design – aka Jaguar’s ‘DriveSelect’ that first appeared in the XF sedan.
History File
This is a 2009 Jaguar XKR Coupe, finished in Gunmetal Pearl with a Warm Charcoal (Black) interior. This car was originally imported and sold as new as a British Motors (Jaguar Hong Kong) vehicle. No major modifications have been done at all to this car’s powertrain, running gear, exterior or interior. Most recent service work performed on this car consists of a routine oil change, installation of a new battery, as well as a fresh set of tires and 20” Jaguar ‘Nevis’ alloy wheels all around. This Jaguar has had four previous owners, has a current mileage of 88,150 km and the current road licence is valid until 31st March, 2023.
Exterior
The Gunmetal Pearl grey paint finish on this Jaguar is in excellent condition – with no surface blemishes or signs of prior damage to report. Both front and rear bumpers are free of any damage – the prominent Jaguar front grille and bumper insert are all fully intact and all of the chrome trim pieces are. All of the Jaguar emblems and ‘R’ badges are present with no missing trim pieces. All of the headlights, taillights and side markers function normally. Both doors, the bonnet and rear hatch lid open and close normally – the rear hatch struts do show some subtle surface discolouration, but this is an aesthetic imperfection and does not affect the regular opening and closing of the tailgate itself; the rest of the hinges and latches are free of any patina. The side fender vents as well as the vents in the bonnet are all intact with none showing any damage. All four 20” ‘Nevis’ alloy wheels are in excellent condition with no kerb rash, all of which currently ride on a fresh set of tyres.
Interior and Trim
Step inside and the Jaguar XKR Coupe’s luxurious interior – full of Warm Charcoal leather upholstery and chrome trim with Piano Black & Silver finished surfaces greets you. All of the Warm Charcoal leather seats remain firm and supportive – the driver’s side bolster shows some minor wear from use over time, but can benefit from a refurbishment to restore its original appearance. The leather three-spoke steering wheel is free of any upholstery wear. The leather-appointed dashboard remains soft to touch and shows no surface damage. The JaguarDrive selector that rises from the centre console upon startup functions as it should – the metal surface of the gear selector itself shows no surface scratches as does the rest of the centre console. Both side door panels, lower scuff plates and door sills are fully intact with no surface damage to note of. All of the interior buttons are solid and none have any surface wear. The touchscreen infotainment system operates normally – the Bowers & Wilkins stereo system featured on this XKR are all in fully working order as well. The instrument cluster is free of any warning messages or warning lights – the LCD cluster screen is free of any missing pixels. Both drivers’ floor pedals are perfectly intact.
Engine and Running Gear
Press the keyless ignition button in the centre console and the 5.0L AJ supercharged V8 engine starts up with a sedate but energetic exhaust note. The current owner highlights that this being one of the midlife refresh X150 XKR models, this features one of the more powerful, but more efficient V8 engines in Jaguar’s engine family. Power delivery from this 5.0L supercharged V8 is very smooth and linear with plenty of power across the rev range, allowing this coupe to easily pick up speed as soon as the throttle is applied, with the addition of the XKR’s enhanced exhaust system allowing it to sound even more audible to the ears. The 6-Speed ZF automatic transmission, featuring an upgraded torque converter to handle the extra power from the supercharged V8 engine, upshifts and downshifts without any issues. The steering remains weighted and competent through any degree of cornering – holding down the ‘Dynamic Mode’ button located in the centre console adjusts the throttle, steering, and gearbox settings to offer a more thrilling and engaging driving experience. The brakes provide plenty of stopping power to bring this sports coupe to a halt. With its eye-catching design and powerful power-plant under the hood, this Jaguar XKR Coupe is the perfect long-distance cruiser that can easily get from point A to B in a flash if needed – now available at the Car Farm.
