Model History
The latest in the Mazda MX-5 (Miata) family, the MX-5 ND continues the formula of ‘Jinba Ittai’ (rider and horse as one) the first MX-5 started back in 1989 – serving as the latest iteration of Mazda’s lightweight, rear wheel drive compact roadster concept. Compared to its predecessor, the NC, the ND generation is 105 mm shorter and 100 kg lighter, weighing in at a total of just 1,000 kg. Both 1.5L and 2.0L naturally aspirated, inline-four cylinder engines (incorporating Mazda’s SKYACTIV direct fuel injection technology) paired to either a 6-Speed manual or automatic transmission are the sole powertrain options. The ND generation is also the first MX-5 to feature an electric power steering system, compared to previous models that had traditional hydraulic power steering. As with previous MX-5s, the ND has received high praise within the automotive press: winning many Car of the Year awards from various magazines upon its debut in 2016 – once again, reiterating that if you are looking for a modern-day, lightweight compact roadster, ‘Miata is always the answer.’
History File
This is a 2015 Mazda MX-5 Manual (ND), finished in Soul Red with a Black interior. This car was originally imported as an official Mazda Hong Kong car. The current owner acquired the MX-5 as it currently stands with all of the modifications and aftermarket parts that have been applied over the years. Exterior modifications on this car include a Mazdaspeed body kit (front lip spoiler, side skirts, and rear boot lip), a set of Work Meister S1R wheels (with Workmeister centre caps), Cravenspeed aerial, and LED exterior lights (front & rear). Running gear enhancements include a K&N air filter, JBR intake hose, ArmaSpeed Carbon Fibre air box, an aftermarket exhaust, NGK spark plugs and AP Racing brakes with upgraded brake lines, as well as a set of Bridgestone Potenza S007A tyres this car currently rides on. Interior changes include custom interior cabin stitched carpeting as well as an i-Road X9 dash-cam setup for added security.
Special focus has been given to this MX-5 towards its suspension and handling to give it its current setup, including a Cusco Street Zero A suspension set, Flyin’ Miata lowering springs & rear bump stop, HardRace rear camber kit, Cusco brace bar, Blitz front & rear strut bar, and aftermarket camber plates.
The full service record detailing all the work this car received since 2019 has been kept on record and can be provided on request – with dates of when the installation of the modifications were done, all the fluid changes (including what brands & types used) carried out, as well as when suspension adjustments and alignments were carried out; the most recent service took place in November 2022, which consisted of a regular oil and filter change. In September 2019, this MX-5 also received a full Pomponazzi exterior paint protection coating (that lasts up to 3 years) and in September 2020, all of the Work Meister S1R wheels received a surface coating by Keeper Pro. This MX-5 has had three previous owners, has a current mileage of 49,894 km and the current road licence is valid until 4th April, 2023.
Exterior
The Soul Red exterior of this MX-5 ND is in excellent condition – having received a full, professional grade Pomponazzi exterior coating three years ago that have protected all of the body panels from the natural elements and ensure it still shines under light. Despite this car’s low profile and ride height, the Mazdaspeed front lip and side skirts are fully intact with no scratches or imperfections to report of – both the front & rear bumpers as well are free of any damage. Both side doors, the bonnet and rear boot lid open and close shut normally. The primary lights – including the headlights, tail lights and indicators illuminate normally. We observed no scratches or surface wear on either of the side door mirrors, door handles, or windscreen pillars. All of the exterior badges, from the Mazda emblems to the ‘MX-5’ badge are in excellent condition with none showing any surface wear. All four Work Meister S1R three-piece wheels are in pristine condition with no kerb rash on any of them – the surface coating they received from Keeper Pro ensures all of their portions appear pristine. The manually-operated soft-top convertible roof is fully on all of its portions – it also opens and closes seamlessly with no issues.
Interior and Trim
Step inside and a compact, modern Mazda interior greets you. Both Black leather seats remain firmly supportive of both the driver and passenger with no surface wear or tears in any of their leather upholstery. The same applies for the leather upholstered steering wheel, gear shift knob and handbrake lever – all of which show no surface peeling. The dashboard and trim are all fully intact with no scratches or imperfections on their surfaces. The side door panels are free of any damage – as are the side door sills and rubber trim. The MZD Connect infotainment system operates normally with no issues affecting its interface or display – the control module located in the centre console functions as it should. All of the instrument cluster dials function properly – the LCD display shows no missing pixels. All of the interior switchgear and electronic functions operate normally – with their respective controls remaining solid to touch and use and functions like the air conditioning blowing cold without any issues.
Engine and Running Gear
Press the keyless ignition button and the 2.0L SKYACTIV four-cylinder engine springs to life. With the regular upkeep and routine maintenance this car has received, the powertrain is in excellent working condition with no mechanical problems to report of – the naturally aspirated SKYACTIV unit delivers power smoothly across the rev range, with its engine note enhanced thanks to the combination of air intake parts and the aftermarket exhaust installed. With the various aftermarket enhancements done to this roadster focusing on its current suspension and ride setup, this MX-5 rides even lower to the road, offering both a more direct and responsive driving experience when this MX-5 is pushed through the corners at any degree of speed – with the additional chassis rigidity offered by the Cusco brace bar and BLITZ strut bars allowing this chassis to feel even more composed than standard. Despite its low ride height and fitment, the current owner states that the setup as it is is not too aggressively ‘stanced’ or hinders the car from being driven normally – from their experience, it is manageable for daily driving and the ride is not too harsh for the occupants. The gearbox operates with precision and smoothly, as expected of an MX-5, making each gear change a fun and engaging experience. With the addition of the upgraded AP Racing brakes and brake lines, the stopping power of this MX-5 is even more powerful and direct to come to a halt. The ND generation of Mazda’s MX-5 continues to affirm to anyone seeking a lightweight, rear-wheel drive roadster that ‘Miata is Always The Answer’ among modern-day enthusiasts, with this example showcasing the diverse aftermarket support for this roadster platform – now available at the Car Farm.
