Exterior
The Red bodywork was observed to be in great condition all around. As we looked farther around its body, we did not notice any obvious rusts, scratches or dings. The front and rear bumpers, as well as the side sections are in good condition. Both side doors, the front bonnet and rear trunk lid open and close normally. The popup headlights function as they should, with the side indicators and rear taillights in superb condition. The factory vinyl soft top remains secure and is in good condition; however, the soft top window starts turning yellow due to UV oxidation which can benefit from TLC if desired. All four aftermarket wheels are in excellent condition with no visible kerb rash or serious damage. All Mazda emblems are present with no major surface wear observed.
Interior and Trim
Open the doors of this MX-5 (NA), step inside and the MX-5’s compact interior greets the occupants. Both Corbeau seats are in great condition with no major wear on their cloth upholstery. The Nardi steering wheel is in good condition, as is the leather gear shifter and the “MOMO” handbrake lever. All sections of the plastic dashboard are intact with no surface damage or cracks. Both side door panels remain intact with no surface marks. All aluminum trim pieces are in great condition without obvious scratches or cracks. All the interior controls and switchgear operate their functions normally. The cluster gauge illuminates perfectly and easy to read.
Engine and Running Gear
The 1.8L four-cylinder engine comes to life with the turn of the key. Power delivery from this engine is smooth, slightly more audible than stock thanks to the aftermarket centre exhaust pipe on this example. All five gears are precise to use with each gear change, combined with the inputs from the steering and pedals – all of which complement each other to provide a driving experience that is engaging with the driver. The suspension ride height remains in optimal setting and does not cause any rubbing with the tyres. The brakes provide plenty of stopping power to bring this MX-5 to a halt. This MX-5 NA is truly the perfect example of a tastefully modified, lightweight, driver focused sports car and an appreciating classic from Mazda– now available at the Car Farm.
