Model History
Built between 1992 to 2002, the third generation of the RX-7 – the FD3S, would also serve as the final generation of the RX-7 nameplate before it was retired from Mazda’s lineup. Aimed to compete against the likes of the Porsche 911, the RX-7 FD3S featured one of the most striking designs to come out of the sea of mass-produced Japanese models at the time. In addition, it featured Mazda’s first ever mass-produced sequential twin-turbo setup – employing one turbo at low revs, with another spooling into action above 4,000 RPM. The RX-7 FD3S also continued to carry on the legacy of Mazda’s famous – and infamous – Wankel Rotary engine, serving as the last Mazda model to feature it with forced induction.
Today, the RX-7 FD3S is highly regarded as one of the legends in the Japanese import community – alongside models like the Nissan Skyline R34 GT-R and Toyota A80 Supra. The RX-7 FD3S has also become a pop culture icon in everything associated with Japanese tuner cars – from the famous manga/anime series ‘Initial D’ as the car of choice of Keisuke Takahshi, to being featured prominently in street racing movies, magazine covers, and video games celebrating tuner car culture

Engine and Running Gear
Turn the key and the RX-7’s signature piece, the single-turbocharged 13B-REW Wankel Rotary engine comes to life – amplified thanks to the FEED exhaust. Power delivery across the rev range is smooth and quick – the rebuild this rotary engine unit previously received was of professional grade, ensuring it runs without any reported mechanical issues. The upgraded BorgWarner turbocharger spools boost healthily at peak throttle. The 5-speed manual transmission is sharp and precise with each gear change. The steering and all of the driver inputs are communicative with the driver – the various aftermarket suspension parts allow this RX-7’s sports car characteristics to shine even more. The brakes provide plenty of stopping power to bring this Mazda to a halt. This RX-7 FD3S is an excellent example of Mazda’s famed sports car in the 90s and will be desirable to any JDM fan or appreciator – now available at the Car Farm.
