The Mazda RX-8 is a sports car manufactured by Mazda between 2002 and 2012. It is the successor to the RX-7 and, like its predecessors in the RX range. Heart of the Mazda RX-8 is a newly developed rotary engine, RENESIS. The name itself represents “rotary engine (RE) genesis” and is symbolic of RENESIS’s revolutionary rotary technology that combines high levels of performance potential, with acceptable fuel consumption and low emissions. The RX-8 was the last commercially available car to use the Mazda rotary engine, with its top-of-the-line version – the RX8 Type S, producing 247 Hp and redlines at 9000 rpm, and it comes only in a 6-speed manual transmission.
Presented to you is a 2005 Mazda RX8 Type S, finished in Grey with a Black and Grey cloth upholstery. This example is paired with a 6-speed manual transmission. It was originally imported and sold as a Mazda Hong Kong car. It was first registered in Hong Kong on 21st December 2007. It has been well maintained throughout its lifetime. This RX-8 has received a few modifications which include an aftermarket body kit, Tein Suspension coilovers, and a set of aftermarket 18” wheels paired with performance tyres. This example has 4 previous owners. The current seller acquired it in 2020. It has a current mileage of 105,377km and the road license expired in mid-2023. It has been kept mostly inside the seller’s storage unit.
The exterior paint of this Mazda RX8 Type S is in excellent condition, the original grey paint still manages to reflect light from its body from all directions. As we looked farther around its body, we did not notice any obvious scratches or dings, although there are a few scratches on the lower front lips. All areas of concern such as its side mirrors, door handles, and rear lights are tightly secured to its body and are not loose. All body panels line up straight and perfectly. All the window trims are still in great condition and show no sign of oxidation. The front bonnet and rear boot are in excellent condition without any type of defects. The Mazda emblem and RX8 badge are present and in great condition showing no signs of cracking. The headlights are a bit cloudy due to UV oxidation whereas the tail lights remain crystal clear and operate as they should.
Interior and Trim
Mazda created a new class of “true” four-seaters in the sports car segment. With the RX-8’s revolutionary centre-opening door configuration, the back seats are not simply meant to carry school children but are meant to provide comfort and room for two adults, even on longer trips. This Mazda RX8 interior is well put together, as observed from the fit and finish of the dashboard, centre console and door panels. All the seats have been preserved and kept in great condition, with no signs of holes, tears, or serious creases. All the air conditioner vents and buttons are intact and function as they should. The 3-spoke black leather-wrapped steering wheel is in excellent condition showing no sign of detects or scratches. The rotary-shaped gear shifter feels good to grip and is easy to select into gears. The door cards are well-preserved without any damage to their fabric and buttons. The cluster gauge is easy to read and functioning as it should. The infotainment display operates normally and shows no missing pixels. The original door sill plates are free from any significant signs of wear or scuff marks.
Engine and Running Gear
Switching on this RX8 Type S is an effortless experience, as the 1.3 L RENESIS 13B-MSP rotary engine fired up at the turn of the key. The engine was eager to be driven across all RPM ranges. The overall ride is smooth, and the gearbox is very accurate, making each change of the gear a fun and engaging experience. The factory brake system is responsive to use and provides enough power to bring this RX8 Type S to a prompt halt. Now is your chance to take home a “true” four-seaters and four-doors JDM sports car that is ready to jump in and drive, available to you at the Car Farm!
