Based on the W212 generation of the E-Class sedan, the E63 AMG (W212) continued Affalterbach’s trend of installing big-displacement V8 engines into seemingly sedate luxury Mercedes Benz sedans – with a 6.2L M156 naturally-aspirated V8 engine with 518 hp under the hood, paired to a 7-Speed 7G-Tronic SPEEDSHIFT MCT automatic transmission, all sent to the rear wheels – capable of 0-100 km/h in 4.5 seconds. Compared to a standard W212 E-Class, the E63 AMG featured unique body styling, such as a specially designed front bumper for better airflow to cool the massive engine, more aggressive side skirt and rear bumper designs, as well as wider wheel arches to facilitate the E63’s wider front track and axle. This would ultimately be the last in line of naturally-aspirated V8 engines to find their way into AMG E-Class models, as succeeding models – including a midlife refresh – replaced the M156 V8 with turbocharged units.
This is a 2009 Mercedes Benz E63 AMG, finished in Black with a Black Leather upholstery. It is an original Hong Kong market car sold new through Zung Fu, HK’s official Mercedes Benz dealer and importer. It has been kept in fully stock condition with no modifications done – neither to the outside, inside, or running gear. It was previously owned by a mechanic of a local car dealer who has carried out all the regular maintenance of this car by themselves – with the most recent service having taken place this year that replaced all of the fluids and consumables (oil etc.), fitted a brand new set of tyres, as well as renewing the road license for another year. This E63 AMG has been through just one previous owner, a current mileage of 41,446 km, and the road license is valid until 23rd January, 2023.
Upon visual inspection, we found the Black paint finish of this E63 AMG sedan to be in excellent condition – with no imperfections on any of the panel surfaces to report of. Both front and rear bumpers, side skirts and side fenders are free of any imperfections. The front grille is fully intact with no stone chips or scratches. Both side door mirrors with integrated turn signals are free of any scratches. All of the doors, front hood and rear trunk open and close normally – none of their hinges or latches have any corrosion and the trunk’s power opening function works normally. Both headlights and rear lights operate as they should. All four specially designed AMG alloy wheels are free of any kerb rash or damage. All of the Mercedes and AMG badges are present with no missing trim pieces.
Interior and Trim
A look inside and a traditional Mercedes Benz sedan interior greets you – with subtle touches around to highlight this car’s status as an AMG model. All of the leather seats are intact with no tears. All of the side door panels are also free of any tears on their surfaces – all of the side door sills and scuff plates are also free of any damage. All of the interior buttons remain clearly visible and are operating as they should. The steering wheel and shift knob are free of any imperfections on their surfaces. The dashboard is free from any cracks or fade. The cluster gauge illuminates and provides the driver with the essentials – the instrument cluster’s LCD display is free of any issues and all of the dials work normally – no warning lights remain illuminated upon startup. All of the buttons located in the centre do not feel sticky and the COMAND Infotainment system has no issues when used.
Engine and Running Gear
Press the Keyless-Go ignition button and the 6.2L V8 roars into life with a throaty and audible exhaust note. The 7-Speed 7G-Tronic SPEEDSHIFT MCT automatic transmission shifts and engages all of its gears without any issues – thanks to the tuning done by AMG, the transmission is very responsive to allow all of the V8’s power to be utilised when needed and can be adjusted for a more aggressive driving experience. Power delivery is linear across the rev range – the car is quick to get up to speed when the accelerator is pressed. The steering is responsive and can be adjusted along with the adaptive dampers with the various drive mode settings to sharpen or soften the steering feel. The brakes as expected are powerful and bring the car to a halt instantly. The E63 AMG (W212) serves as one of the last in line of performance German sedans that were made available with large, naturally-aspirated V8 engines that could give not only their fellow rival sedans a run for their money, but American muscle cars and even a select few supercars as well. For those looking to enjoy the last of the raw German performance sedans, this E63 AMG (W212) will make a fine addition – exclusively available at the Car Farm.
