Model History
Marketed as having “fewer frills, more thrills”, the Peugeot 106 Rallye version had trademark steel wheels painted white. Power steering, central locking, and electric windows were omitted to keep the weight down to 825 kilograms. There were two version’s of the 106 Rallye, S1 and S2. The S1 engine was the original high revving Rally specific 1.3 100bhp TU2j2 engine whilst the S2 had the 103bhp 1.6 litre TU5J2 engine. The S1 Rallye were designed as a homologation special to compete in the 1300cc French rally class. It featured a four cylinder, 8 valve, high compression engine with an aggressive cam profile designed to come ‘on song’ between 5400 and the 7200rpm redline. The S1 TU2J2 and S2 TU5J2 were fuel injected, employing Magneti Marelli multi point fuel injection systems
History File
This Peugeot 106 Rallye is a mint and clean example of the sought-after lightweight hot hatch. Under the bonnet is the 103bhp 1.6 litre TU5J2 engine known to enthusiasts as the ’S2’, coupled to a five-speed manual transmission. This homologation special is a renowned no-frills driver’s car and underwent a no expense spared full engine-out restoration in 2013 on arrival to Hong Kong. A full ground up engine-out restoration by one of Hong Kong’s best bodyshops, this car went through the full anti-rust treatment to bring the car back to ‘as new’ condition. The engine was refreshed whilst out with new replacement engine parts and a new Motec ECU was fitted and a full professional engine tune by GTI Engineering was carried out to bring the best out of the car. The car has been loved and cared for by two collectors here in Hong Kong and is now being offered for listing at the Car Farm.
Exterior
As expected with the level of restoration the first owner put into the car, the bodywork of this 106 Rallye presents in remarkable excellent condition. With no known prior damage to any of the panels, the sills are evidently straight and solid. Going around the car on our visual inspection, the black plastic mouldings and trims around the car are in excellent condition as are the front headlights and rear lighting. With the body prepared to the highest of standards during the restoration in 2013, there appears to be no signs of any surface rust nor bubbling in the paintwork. On inspection of the underside of the car, you can certainly tell this car has been maintained and restored by the true collector that really appreciates the love of their cars. The underside is immaculate and free from any surface rust. All the glass and fittings are all factory original and in very good condition. In the 90’s when the car industry was obsessed with alloy wheels Peugeot had the confidence in the cars ability to supply the Rallye with white-painted Michelin steel wheels. The 14-inch steel wheels on this 106 Rallye are in pristine condition and comes with the original wheel caps.
Interior and Trim
Moving to the inside, the upholstery is believed to be all original and still presents in excellent condition. The cabin does looks very smart with wind-up windows, Rallye sports seats, blue carpet and original floor mats all in excellent condition. The gear knob and 3-spoke steering wheel are all original and in excellent condition. To save weight, there was no central locking feature. For those of you that love to drive with air conditioning, forget it, there is no air conditioning. This is no daily commute or Park n Shop car. This car is for pure fun Sunday morning driving, an exceptional driver’s car that simply aren’t made like this anymore. It’s windows down and will for sure provide you with that addictive driving experience. The dashboard and door panels, trims are all immaculate. Overall, stunning and original condition inside as you can tell from our photography.
Engine and Running Gear
The engine and running gear was rebuilt and serviced year on year by the current and previous owner. Naturally, all the wear and tear items were replaced or refreshed which included new cam and auxiliary belts, as well as a replacement water pump. Other items that were attended to during the engine out refresh were the camshafts and pulleys, all the hoses, the engine cooling system, suspension, braking system and ECU. The five-speed Rallye gearbox was overhauled at the same time. As our photo’s show, the engine bay of this little pocket rocket is in immaculate condition.
The 106 Rallye remains to this day an exceptional drivers car, providing a rich stream of information to the driver with exceptional steering, sharp throttle response and delightfully swift five-speed gearshifts, while even a lack of power assisted steering can’t hide the agility that comes from such light kerbweights. Given its immaculately restored condition, this Rallye would be a credit to any collection of modern classics, and is of course also a superb driver’s car to take out and enjoy whenever the mood takes you.
Original owner’s manual, two sets of original keys and history file come with the sale of the car.

Hi there – lovely car you have here. A couple of questions:
1. Do you have any pictures of the restoration (and before), please?
2. Do you have pictures of the indersid, please?
3. You may not know, but are there any restrictions on exporting this car to the UK?
Many thanks, Will
