Model History
The Porsche 964 was introduced in 1989 and produced until 1994. In true 911 fashion, the overall lines and design of its predecessor the G-Body 911 was a familiar sight on the 964, with subtle changes such as the introduction of the seamless (integrated) front and rear bumpers for better aerodynamics. The Carrera 4 was equipped with Porsche’s M64 naturally aspirated 3.6L flat-six engine producing 247hp, with goodies such as power steering, ABS and the all-wheel drive system – providing 31% of the driving force on the front axle, and 69% to the rear axle in normal driving conditions – for damp or wet driving conditions – both the front and rear axles can be locked providing a 50/50 driving force. There were two transmissions available, 5-Speed Manual or the first ever 4-Speed Tiptronic – which Porsche described as the best balance of both worlds – in terms of sportiness and everyday drivability.
History File
Presented to you at the Car Farm is a 1990 Porsche 964 Carrera 4 Cabriolet, it is an original Jebsen (Porsche Centre Hong Kong) example that has been fully restored, including a top-class bare metal (both inside and out) respray in Riviera Blue. The engine and transmission has also been rebuilt, including a new fuel pump (with brand new fuel lines), new motor oil pump, new alternator, new water hoses, a brand new air-conditioning system, a full Fabspeed exhaust system (de-catted) and an FVD inflow system with tune – enabling this 964 Carrera 4 Cabriolet to produce over 300hp compared to standard at 250hp. For the brakes, a brand new Porsche Big Break system has been installed for the front and rear – while riding on a set of Öhlins dampers. The interior has been fully refurbished with genuine Italian leather, including the seats, door panels and centre console. An aftermarket Alpine stereo head unit has been installed (works with Reversing camera), paired with Focal speakers. This example has a current mileage of 57,158km and a valid road license until 14th December, 2023.
Exterior
The Riviera Blue paint on this example is in pristine condition, as observed from the amount of light which reflects off of its body. All of the body panels remained aligned and straight with no significant signs of body gap. Air ducts are in place of the original fog lights which blend in subtlety with this 964 Carrera 4 Cabriolet’s overall appearance. The Porsche emblem and Carrera 4 badge remains in great shape, free from any signs of fade or chips in paint. The headlights, rear lights and centre panel are free from any signs of cracks or fade and illuminate as they should. The original Porsche wheels and their centre caps remain in spectacular condition, free from any signs of kerb rash. The window trim and seals are free from any signs of oxidation or brittleness. The soft-top lowers in a smooth manner, and is free from any signs of tears – the plastic window has minor signs of fade due to its age – this does not affect its ability to keep the cabin safe from external elements.
Interior and Trim
Open up the doors of this stunning Riviera Blue 964 Carrera 4 Cabriolet, we are greeted with a fully refurbished interior in a tasteful Brown Italian leather with black contrasting elements. All components are aligned and straight, as well as fully secured to the chassis and doors. As expected of a car that is driven and enjoyed, there are minor creases observed on the driver’s seat. The centre console is brand new, and the buttons within are clearly visible (except for the ‘Door Lock’ and ‘Air-Conditioning’ button – with minor signs of wear) without any form of stickiness. The dashboard remains straight and free from cracks or excessive signs of fade, housing the cluster gauge which is fully operational and illuminates as it should when Parking Lights or Headlights are enabled, providing accurate and clear readings of the car’s running condition. Subtle touches, such as the cassette holder is intact, as well as a fire extinguisher is in place for added security. The aftermarket Alpine stereo head unit works seamlessly with the Reverse Camera, and the Focal speakers provide crisps sound. The air-conditioning system blows out cold air and the interior carpeting is in ‘like-new’ condition.
Engine and Running Gear
At the turn of the key, the M64/01 engine springs to life and we are greeted with the euphoric air-cooled sounds from the fully rebuilt flat-six unit enhanced by the full Fabspeed exhaust system. Taking a seat in the fully refurbished interior and shifting into first was a gratifying experience – as it feels like we are driving the 964 Carrera 4 Cabriolet on the day it was collected from the showroom. Mechanically sound, free revving, and responsive, regardless of the weather or road conditions thanks to the all-wheel drive system unique to the Carrera 4. Compared to cars of our modern day and age, this 964 is nimble, with a very responsive throttle and brakes, with the brand new Porsche Big Brake system. The Öhlins dampers provide a perfect balance of sport and comfort, remaining very firm without being too harsh and are suited for spirited drives on mountain roads. To take your driving experience to the next level, lower the soft-top and you are in for an immense amount of enjoyment. Here is your chance to take home a worry-free example, one that has been taken care of the big-ticket items and is ready to drive – available to you at the Car Farm.
