Model History
Subaru has made its place in creating a variety of limited and special edition Imprezas. In 2006, with the GDB9 chassis, have produced the WRX STI Spec C Type RA-R. A limited production run of 300 units (50 units in Astral Yellow, 125 units in Pure White, 125 units in World Rally Blue Mica), that featured a larger diameter turbo, revised ECU, sports catalystic exhaust with a low back pressure exhaust – producing a total of 320hp at 6,400rpm. The suspension was lowered by 15mm, and for the first time in a Japanese mass-production car, it was fitted with 6-piston monoblock Brembo brakes (with STi logo). For the exterior, an exclusive STi front lip was installed, along with specifically designed 18” wheels were fitted to the WRX STI Spec C Type RA-R and overall weight was 1,390kgs (around 70kgs less than the JDM WRX STi).
History File
Presented to you at the Car Farm is a 2006 Subaru Impreza WRX STi Spec C RA-R, that was imported from the United Kingdom. It has been kept to factory original specifications and as a true driver’s car, it does not come optioned with a stereo head unit, neither is it equipped with the optional rear spoiler, providing a cleaner overall aesthetic. There are no Service Records on hand, however it is free from any signs of rust, the paint remains vibrant and the iconic EJ20 engine is sturdy and powerful. It is currently unregistered in Hong Kong, with a current mileage of 131,812km.
Exterior
As mentioned in the History File, the WR Blue Mica paint on this example is in exceptional condition, as light reflects from off of its body in all angles. The model specific 12-Spoke wheels finished in White are overall in pristine condition, except for the rear left wheel which has a minor sign of kerb rash. For 12 years of age, the window trim has held up well, with no signs of cracks or excessive fade from UV exposure. The Subaru emblems, both front and rear, including the STi and RA-R logos are all vibrant in colour – with no signs of paint chip of oxidation. The headlights have aged gracefully – a good polish or small amount of TLC will bring the iconic ‘Hawkeyes’ back to factory fresh, while the rear lights remain crystal clear. The unique ‘STi’ pink nose surround remains full in colour with no stone chip markings. The exclusive STi front lip is free from any scratches and is tightly secured to the front bumper. The manually operated roof scoop opens and closes as it should and is free from any prone to leaks. From a complete walk around, we confirm that all of the body panels are aligned.
Interior and Trim
Open up the doors of this limited edition Subaru, we are greeted with a clean a minimalist interior. The important components such as the dashboard, and front passenger seats are all in great condition, free from any holes, cracks or tears. There are minor creases observed on the driver’s bottom right hand bolster, however for a car with this mileage it is relatively minor imperfection. The rear seats show little to know signs of wear. The climate control buttons are fully functioning and free from any stickiness. In place of the stereo head unit is a stereo delete plate. The shift boot remains in very good condition, free from any tears, and remains in a fresh state. Depending on the next keeper, the shift knob sticker may be replaced to keep the overall factory fresh finish of this cabin. The surrounding door sill plates for all four corners are free from any severe scuff marks and the door panels remain tightly secured to the doors. The aluminium sport pedal set including the traditional three pedals and dead pedal are free from any signs of oxidation. The boot space has minimal carpeting, and houses both the spare wheel and the water spray tank.
Engine and Running Gear
Switching on this WRX STI Spec C Type RA-R was an effortless and traditional task, with the full turn of the key. The driver inputs such as the clutch, brakes and accelerator pedal were all perfectly positioned and for any experienced driver with manual transmission, can drive with ease. The steering was weighted perfectly and matched direct and engaging gear shifts. There was the signature subtle rumble of the 2.0L flat-four engine, and the all-wheel drive system is confidence inspiring even in the dampest of road conditions, allowing this WRX STI Spec C Type RA-R to stay planted to the road and up to speed. The turbo operated as it should letting the driver feel the full 320hp, and did not give out any excessive smoke coming out of the exhaust.
