A compact SUV that was produced by the Japanese automaker Suzuki. The boxy and utilitarian design makes this iconic Suzuki Vitara stand out from all the Japanese compact SUVs from that era. It has a short wheelbase making it well-suited for off-road adventures. The Vitara JLX Convertible features a removable soft top that allows for open-air driving. The convertible design provides a sense of freedom and a more engaging driving experience, especially in favorable weather conditions.
Presented to you at the Car Farm is a 1997 Suzuki Vitara JLX Convertible. This example has 3 previous owners. It was imported new from Japan and sold as a Suzuki Hong Kong car back in 1997. It was first registered in Hong Kong on 19th December 1997. Recent modifications reported on this car include a full brown leather interior, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, a Pioneer double din stereo head unit and the Owens classic running boards. There are no modifications under the bonnet and the drivetrain. This Suzuki is showing a respectively low mileage of 85,165km on the odometer. The car is stored indoors and the road license is expired.
The Blue and Silver exterior paint of this Suzuki Vitara JLX Convertible still manages to reflect light from its body from all directions, although it is not as good as a new car. Both front and rear bumpers and all the silver panels and trims might have been repainted before. As we looked farther around its body, we did not notice any obvious rusts, scratches, or dings – and areas of concern such as its side mirrors, door handles, and rear lights are tightly secured to its body and are not loose. All body panels line up straight. The 15” stock wheels are overall in perfect condition. The headlights, side indicators, and rear lights remain crystal clear, and all illuminate as they should. The surrounding window trims are in great condition, with no signs of extreme fade, oxidation, or brittleness. The soft top fabric is still in good condition without tears, although there is some discoloration caused by the prolonged exposure to the sun, as well as the vinyl windows have turned cloudy which would need some restoration.
Interior and Trim
Open the doors of this Suzuki Vitara JLX Convertible, we are immediately greeted with a very retro and stylish interior. The reupholstered brown leather seats with diamond stitches are in great condition. They are very soft and supportive. The door cards have been redone and wrapped with matching diamond-stitched brown leather. The steering wheel is wrapped with black leather as well. The dashboard is completely crack-free and its material still holding strong, however, it is decolorized, which can be restored to its original appearance with some TLC. All the buttons on the centre console are crack-free, although some of the air vent pieces are broken. The gear shifter feels great in the hands of the driver with only minor surface wear. The plastic trim, next to the gear shifter, is broken off which would need a replacement to improve its appearance. The traditional cluster gauge illuminates perfectly and is easy to read. The Pioneer double din stereo head unit operates normally. Please note that the electric window buttons are not operating at the moment.
Engine and Running Gear
This Suzuki Vitara JLX Convertible is very basic, utilitarian at the same time very fun to drive. The 1.6-liter, four-cylinder gasoline engine fired up with no hesitation. As the engine was warming up, we did not notice any excessive smoke or strange smells coming from the exhaust and engine respectively. Although it is relatively tall and narrow, we were very confident around the tight corners. The 5-speed manual gearbox is very precise to use. Air conditioning however is not functioning which would need some TLC. Brakes offer a good amount of stopping power to bring the car to a halt. It is slow but not underpowered. This Vitara is a cool and retro-looking compact SUV. If you are dreaming for a passionate JDM convertible SUV, this 1997 Suzuki Suzuki Vitara is now exclusive available at the Car Farm.
